At East Oakview, I provide individual and group counseling to both students and their families. Students also have the option of filling out Talk Time slips. Talk Time is available to all students and provides a short-term, solution focused conversation about student concerns.
Group counseling typically addresses social skills, anger management, self regulation, positive learner qualities, and changes in family. Additional groups can be created to address student needs. Group counseling can be accessed by parents/guardians or teachers contacting me and does require a signed consent form.
Individual counseling is typically ongoing (more than 3 visits) and long term. Students taking part in individual counseling will have goals as part of a plan that will focus counseling. Parent/guardian involvement is encouraged. Individual counseling can be accessed by parents/guardians or teachers contacting me and does require a signed consent form.
Peer to Peer Support is an evidenced based practice that matches general education student volunteers with special education peers. The general education students(peer models) are trained appropriately and then work alongside special education peers while modeling social skills and positive learner qualities. The peer models meet weekly as a group to problem solve and receive additional training as necessary.
Confidentiality: Talk Time, group, and individual counseling is all confidential. However, if something should come up that requires more focused attention and follow up, I will contact parent(s)/guardian(s) as necessary.
